Silverlight Twitter App
Governor loves Silverlight, and everybody else loves Twitter. So what better way to spend our spare time than to develop a Silverlight Twitter App?
After a bit of humming an hah-ing we decided to do a desktop widget, something that would sit on the side of the screen and bring users the latest events from the Twitterverse.
Space of course became an immediate issue, so the challenge was to squeeze all the key functionality into a compact design.
Another problem we knew we had to overcome was the use of .gif images in avatars. Silverlight doesn't support the gif format, so we wrote a script to convert any gif-based avatars into jpgs in order to display them.
Finally we decided we wanted an interface that was ready for touch sensitive technology - which we believe that the launch of Windows 7 is likely to take into the mainstream for laptop and PC screens. Therefore we came up with a touch friendly 'kinetic scrolling' effect - which is always much easier to talk about than it is to program.
The widget is still in final development and when it is ready we will be making it available as a free download right from this site.
