LinkedIn Awards Winners Announced

The inaugural LinkedIn European Business Awards 2010 winners have now been announced.  There was a live online ceremony conducted using site sponsor Cisco Webex's leading online meeting and conference solution.  A recording of the ceremony is now available on the site.

The website is a bespoke application, designed, built, maintained and hosted by Governor Technology, that integrates with the main LinkedIn site (www.linkedin.com) through their Application Programming Interface (API).

Through this mechanism LinkedIn members can choose to share their LinkedIn profile information with the site.  This creates a seamless user experience when moving between the awards site where they could nominate, support and vote for the awards, and the main LinkedIn website which has a discussion group for continued interaction between members.

Integration with Twitter also enabled us to automate the broadcasting of news about nominations and votes cast, although again only with the permission of the LinkedIn member we were tweeting about.  Which was necessary to comply with the strict privacy standards that LinkedIn adheres to in order to protect its members identities.

Over 2,200 tweets were sent out in this way, making them instrumental in driving up site traffic, and an integral part of the overall awards marketing campaign.

In the 6 months from the site going live to the closing ceremony, it attracted nearly 90,000 unique visitors and over 130,000 visits lasting an average of 3 minutes each.
