Copyright Licensing Agency
Online Survey Platform and Interface
Governor Technology was awarded a contract by the Copyright
Licensing Agency (CLA) Ltd to develop a bespoke web application
that would track the use of copyrighted material amongst their
licencees.
The Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) is a
not-for-profit organisation jointly owned by the Publishers'
Licensing Society (PLS) and the Authors' Licensing and Collecting
Society Ltd.
The CLA enables private and public sector bodies to manage the
risk of copyright infringement through a collective licensing
model. By collecting licence fees and re-distributing them back to
rights holders, they ensure that licensees can make legal copies
without the need to seek individual permission from each copyright
holder.
As part of this, the CLA conduct regular surveys of licensees copying activity. Historically these surveys were paper and spreadsheet based. The CLA commissioned us to build a bespoke software tool that would enable them to capture such information through an online survey.
As well as an interface for licencees, we designed the system so that CLA staff could design and process the survey information received. The system also includes messaging and email based communication to thousands of survey respondents at any one time.
