The London Development Agency
The London Development Agency is the government body charged with delivering the London Mayor's vision for London as a sustainable world city with strong, long-term economic growth, social inclusion and active environmental improvement.
As part of its activities the LDA manages the European Social Fund (ESF) in London, which invests in projects via delivery partners, to create training and employment opportunities that address key issues of workforce development and economic exclusion. This involves managing spending of some £300m of European money annually, monitoring and reporting back on the effectiveness of this investment.
Governor Technology built a new system to help LDA staff in the process of monitoring and auditing the activities of several hundred delivery partners - external agencies that receive the ESF money.
This involved creating a highly robust, data validated spreadsheet to collect accurate data from delivery partners on a monthly basis. This feedsinto a central database using a web interface that carries out additional data validation and processing, creating a month-on-month audit trail as well as an overall picture of the outcomes of the expenditure.
The project was successfully delivered on time and within
budget, despite some very tight deadlines and a strict set of
requirements for data and accessibility
standards.
The end result is a solution that saves the LDA time and money in
its auditing activities with delivery partners, whilst at the same
time increasing the quality and accuracy of the data collected.
