CSS Partners

CSS Partners is an investment management and corporate finance company, which takes stakes in and recommends private equity investments to individual clients.

In 2008 they had a need to replace a series of spreadsheets with a complete client management and communication system to become the backbone of their business operation and that would also take account of the regulatory requirements of the FSA. 

As part of an initial Scoping Phase we spent several days capturing their processes and information needs.  This was the first time they had ever articulated their processes in this way.

It quickly became clear that no off the shelf applications were suitable for the task, and that a bespoke solution would be required.  This would also have a strategic advantage of creating a system that would be an asset to the business, and over which they would have absolute control.

Using the Scoping Phase we were able to design their system and then begin development using agile techniques that allowed them to have the highest priority parts of the system available for use as soon as possible.  This approach kept the focus of the project on producing high quality outcomes with clear justification in terms of the return on investment.
